Steak n Shake switches to beef tallow

Steak n Shake switches to beef tallow

Nationwide chain Steak ‘n Shake has switched from vegetable oil to beef tallow. The food they serve from the fryers will now be prepared in their restaurants without seed oils.

Disclaimer: the fries are pre-prepared (bought frozen) with soybean and canola oil. Once those fries get to the restaurant only tallow is used. Not 100% seed oil free, but the amount of seed oil in the final product is minimal and dissipated while cooking. People are speculating they might find a new supplier of frozen fries.

Company-wide switch to beef tallow

The owner of Steak ‘n Shake has wanted to switch for some time and now that they’ve found a beef tallow supplier they’ve made the switch.

“Same fry cooked in beef tallow It’s crispier, it’s golden brown, it’s absolutely delicious and you’re gonna love them when you try them. You’re not gonna want to ever go back to the old way of doing fries.”
